Let's practice FUN WARM-UPS.

midwest flute institute 2024 warm-up packet
Double Tonguing
Simpson's descending 5ths
Gaga for low Articulation
They don't talk about minor thirds
Gaga for high notes
Low Register Warm-Ups from books
Books include:
  • Trevor WYE Practice Book for the flute book 1 tone
  • TAFFANEL & GAUBERT 17 Grand Daily Exercises
  • Marcel MOYSE Tone Development through Interpretation
Low register thoughts:
  • Shape your lips like a pancake and let the air slide out like syrup.
  • Blow as if you're fogging up a window, not whistling.  Let the air flow like a river, not a hose - broad, steady, and unhurried.
  • Low notes need a ribbon of air, not a dart.
  • Low notes need a wide road, not a skinny path - flatten the aperture and slow the traffic.
  • Fast air wakes up the high notes; slow air cradles the low.
  • Think of low notes like embers, not flames - the glow when you breathe on them gently.
  • Blowing into the low register is like pouring hones - it needs to be slow and stead, or you'll make a mess.

Enjoy the flute warm-ups created by Matthew Allison.  These patterns are intended to offer variety in your flute practice, so you can stay focused and have more fun!
