Let's all practice flute.

Let's face it.  We can all use a little help sometimes when it comes to learning music.  Maybe that help is direction in technique, or a little motivation, a little inspiration, a little variety, a little … fun. 

I have been fortunate in my studies and career to have access to great teachers.  But access to great teachers is not always within reach of all the deserving students.  Some students live in areas where there are not enough professional musicians teaching.  Some students do not have the financial resources to pay for private lessons.  Some do not have the family support, transportation, or other resources to work with a great teacher.

I hope to help.

Practice Flute is dedicated to providing free or low-cost tutorials, tips, practice guides, etudes and studies so that all students can have access to help.  I will always welcome your suggestions for ways to improve the site, requests for tutorial pages on specific repertoire and auditions, and any other feedback.  After all, learning never stops!

Some of the methods suggested might be a little … unconventional.  That is by design.  I have learned that the brain likes to try to fit our experiences into a comfortable pattern; sometimes that limits our ability to learn new things.  Sometimes we fell stuck and fall into ruts.  Sometimes we simply get bored. 

Looking at music from another perspective can get us unstuck.  Approaching the same music from a different angle can make it feel new and exciting again.  Remember to be flexible and fun in your practice.  Love what you do, love what you learn, love what you play.  Now, let's go . . .
